Wycombe battered Northampton for the opening half an hour only to fall behind to a speculative shot from David Hunt on the half hour.
Kevin Betsy missed a great chance for Wycombe after five minutes when Nathan Tyson fed the ball across the box.
Betsy returned the complement on seven minutes for Tyson to squeeze his effort wide.
Northampton defended with all 11 players for 10 minutes, but suddenly broke forward with Hunt in midfield. He looked up to see Frank Talia and speared a left-foot shot that the Wycombe keeper spilled into his own net.
Despite constant pressure, Wycombe were unable to draw level before the break.
At the start of the second half, John Gorman brought on the new Argentinean signed Sergio Torres to the delight of the crowd.
His first touch was a very nasty stud down his knee from Pedj Bojic who was dismissed for serious foul play.
With the Cobblers down to 10 men, Wycombe pressed on. From a Danny Senda free-kick, Mike Williamson headed the home side level at the far post on 58 minutes.
Tyson was sent clear on 66 minutes with just Lee Harper in the Town goal to beat but he fired straight at the keeper.
In the last 10 minutes Wycombe seemed to run out of ideas as Northampton looked comfortable defending a point.
Tommy Mooney had a chance in front of goal on 88 minutes but lost control at the vital time.
