Ex-striker Lawrie Dudfield turned out in the Cobblers colours at the Abbey Stadium yesterday. The out of contract striker has been a free agent since his contract with Southend United expired at the end of June. He lives locally and Colin Calderwood invited him to train with the Cobblers while searching for a new club.
Dudfield was included in the squad as a trialist and replaced Eric Sabin at half-time to score what resulted in the winning goal after 54 minutes. Brett Johnson had given the Cobblers the lead 3 minutes earlier. Both goals coming subsequent to corners.
Cambridge pulled a goal back in the 68th minute.
