Daggers` woes continue at Northampton

Goals in each half from Arron Davies and top scorer Adebayo Akinfenwa earned Northampton a long overdue first home win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Dagenham.

Northampton should have had the game won by half time after Davies game them a 16th-minute lead, firing home after John Johnson saw his header saved by Chris Lewington and Akinfenwa's rebound was blocked on the line.

Northampton created further chances to double their advantage. Marlon Jackson fired wide of an open goal after Michael Jacobs had forced an error between Lewington and Abu Ogogo and Johnson headed wide at the far post from a corner by Davies, who was then denied by a fingertip save from Lewington.

But Dagenham created three good opportunities at the start of the second half. Jon Nurse fired just wide with a snapshot, Peter Gain flashed an effort across goal and Sam Williams headed over from Ogogo's cross.

But their efforts came to nothing as Akinfenwa doubled Cobblers' advantage in the 59th minute, heading home at the far post from Jacobs' pinpoint cross following a poor clearance from Lewington.

Dagenham went close when Nurse scraped the bar with a header and Gain forced a tip over from Sam Walker who then denied Williams to keep out his point-blank header.

Oliver Lee reduced the arrears in stoppage time from Ogogo's low cross but it came too late to change the outcome.
