Silva denies Daggers
Toni Silva struck his first goal for Northampton to ease their relegation fears with a 1-0 win which heaped more misery on Dagenham & Redbridge at the bottom of League Two.
The visitors posed the greater goal threat early on, with Adebayo Akinfenwa shooting inches wide with the outside of his right foot while Brian Woodall tested the handling of keeper Matt Duke at his near post for Daggers.
But Northampton dominated through to half time and Silva, on loan from Liverpool, was denied by keeper Chris Lewington from close range and then set up Akinfenwa who fired over from 12 yards.
On the stroke of half-time, Daggers skipper Mark Arber got on the end of Damien McCrory's free-kick but his half-volley was brilliantly pushed over the top by Duke.
With the first chance of the second half Northampton took the lead when Michael Jacobs' low shot was parried across goal by Lewington and tapped in by Silva after 62 minutes.
In stoppage time, Josh Parker saw a header saved as Daggers slipped four points adrift at the bottom.
