The pressure was off! Town could relax against already relegated Cambridge, before the match Chris Hargreaves picked up the player of the seasons award and Kevan Broadhurst receieved a special presentation following his miracle great escape!
The game began in party atmosphere, but it was the visitors who took the lead in the 4th minute, Richard Hope lost possession on the edge of the visitors penalty area and Tony Scully broke away to set up Paul Kitson, Keith Welch saved well but Tom Youngs headed into an empty net.
The game died into end of season insignificance until the 22nd minute when Jamie Forrester was on the end of a cross, but keeper Shaun Marshall saved well. Derek Asahmoah tried an overhead kick from the edge of the area but the ball was handled by Angus. Jamie Forrester dispatched the penalty to tie the scores at 1-1.
Just before half time Chris Marsh struck a sweet 30 yard shot that was palmed onto the post by Marshall. Moments later Shane Tudor tried his luck from 30 yards at the other end, but Keith Welch tipped his volley over for a corner.
The second half didn't produce much more excitement although The Cobblers produced much better football, six minutes into the half, Chris Hargreaves shot just wide from Jamie Forrester's cross. Moments later Chris Carruthers picked out Forrester but the Cobblers leading scorer headed just over.
With around 20 minutes left the visitors took the lead against the run of play, Youngs broke through the middle and shot past Welch from 20 yards.
Minutes later Hargreaves' shot was pushed away by Marshall following a deflection. With six minutes to go, Kevan Broadhurst gave a debut to Steve Morrison and and a rare appearance for John Hodge.
It was Hodge who became the saviour! With Cambridge looking for their first away win for over a year, Hodge scored a wonder goal in the 92nd minute. Picking up the ball on the halfway line, the Cobblers winger took on five defenders before shooting into the bottom corner to cap off a fantastic season for the Cobblers and sending the home supporters wild. It was a deserved point in a low key game!

A very boring game was capped by a fantastic goal from Hodge! This could be the last thing he does in a claret shirt and what a way to bow out if that's the case. The party atmosphere was almost a hangover atomosphere as the visitors almost done a "Leyton Orient" The odds were against us as the last time Cambridge won away from home was at Sixfields last year on Good Friday! Another season is over and The Cobblers have survived, what an amazing escape - well done to Kevan Broadhurst and the players from everyone at NTFConline.
Cobblers Man of the Match - Chris Carruthers - The 18 year old worked his backside off and thoroughly deserves his new contract.
Ref Watch
Mr Foy did his best to kill a slow game, giving freekicks for fun. He was terrible and confused both sets of supporters with his decisions.
