Robins leave it late to frustrate Cobblers

Darryl Duffy scored a late brace as promotion-chasing Cheltenham claimed a 2-2 draw to deny relegation-threatened Northampton a memorable victory.

First-half goals from Ben Tozer and Adebayo Akinfenwa put Aidy Boothroyd's bottom of the table side on course for three headline-grabbing points, but Cheltenham dominated the second half and duly hit back.

Northampton opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Michael Jacobs' ball into the box was touched against a post by Brett Williams and Tozer followed up from close range.

Luke Summerfield saw a chip touched over by Matt Duke, but Northampton hit Cheltenham on the break to make it 2-0 in the 35th minute. John Johnson's long ball falling to Akinfenwa, who applied a calm finish.

Williams wasted a chance to make it 3-0 in the 44th minute, firing wide from a great position.

Duke parried a drive from Summerfield three minutes after half-time before also blocking well from Jermaine McGlashan.

But there was nothing he could do in the 76th minute as substitute Duffy pulled one back from the penalty spot after Johnson handled, and the Robins striker earned a point for the hosts with a last-gasp strike after Kaid Mohamed's pass.
