Late misery for Rowett

Gary Rowett's first game as Burton caretaker manager ended in disappointment as Northampton grabbed a last-gasp winner.

The Brewers looked set to end a run of six successive defeats that cost Paul Peschisolido his job at the weekend, that was until Kelvin Langmead fired home the only goal of the game in the second minute of stoppage time amid a goalmouth scramble.

Burton welcomed back Adam Legzdins on a 28-day emergency loan from Derby and he was the busier of the two goalkeepers in a lively first half.

Legzdins was relieved to see a fierce Toni Silva shot deflect over his crossbar but had to keep out a 30-yard effort from the dangerous Michael Jacobs and produced a reaction save to deny Silva late in the half.

Burton's best opening also came as half-time approached, with striker Greg Pearson having a header saved by Matt Duke.

Jacobs failed to make the most of chances to put Northampton in front in a lively start to the second half, first shooting wide and then over in quick succession.

Burton substitute Jimmy Phillips almost broke the stalemate in the 81st minute but narrowly missed the target with his follow-up effort after Duke had beaten out his initial shot.

Legzdins then produced fine saves to keep out Jacobs and Ben Harding as the Cobblers piled on late pressure, which was finally rewarded by Langmead's goal.
