Town took the game to their hosts and were rewarded in the eigth minute, Marco Gabbiadini headed home a James Hunt cross to give the Cobblers the perfect start.
On 21 minutes Roy Hunter drove a 25 yard shot right across the face of goal before Keith Welch saved comfortably from Phil Barnes moments later as the home side looked for a way back inot the game. The Cobblers defended well up to half time keeping a series of Tangerines' corners at bay, Simpson came the closest firing just over the bar from 20 yards, two minutes before half time.

The home side failed to maintain their pressure at the beginning of the second half and Marco Gabbiadini double Town's lead on 54 minutes. Jamie Forrester played the ball into his path before the Cobblers striker drove the ball into the bottom corner for his third goal in two games.
Five minutes later, Former Villa man Graham Fenton pulled a goal back, heading home Martin Bullock's cross. John Frain replaced Paul McGrogor with just over twenty minutes later as Town defended well to hold on to three precious points.
