York Come To Sixfields In Upbeat Mood

A hard-fought New Year's Day success against Morecambe was followed up on Saturday by a 3-1 win against Dagenham & Redbridge, two goals for striker Wes Fletcher taking him into double figures for the season.

Manager Nigel Worthington told BBC Radio York after the game: "Results-wise, wins give you a big change in as far as the points and the league positions are concerned.

"But 28 points isn't going to win you anything or get you anywhere so it's got to be the full focus and concentration. There's plenty of work left to do to get where we would like to get to."

York now travel to Sixfields on Saturday to face a Northampton Town side in improved spirits themselves after a dramatic 2-1 success at Newport County. The game is the reverse fixture of the opening match of the season when Darren Carter was sent off for the Cobblers before, not for the last time, they conceded a late, late goal to Ryan Jarvis.

"I thought it was a typical game at the start of the season, everybody finding their feet," said then manager Aidy Boothroyd afterwards.

"We showed we're at the start of the season, while the workrate and energy was there, what I didn't think was there was that final ball in the first half. "I thought it was a scrappy goal. In the second half I thought we had the better of the chances."
