Wilder's decision to leave Oxford United for Sixfields worked out well for both manager and club last season as the Cobblers achieved safety on the final day of the campaign.
Usually that would lead to talk of consolidation in the upcoming season but Town's troubles are seen as more of a blip than an indication of long-term problems.
"We feel it is an open league and we'll back ourselves," Wilder told BBC Radio Northampton.
"We've got quality and experience through the squad, as well as energy and balance."
