The 6ft 5in centre-back has made seven appearances for Rovers in the Championship this season and has been drafted in as new manager Gary Johnson attempts to end a run of 10 games without a win.
Johnson said: "Byron played for the reserves against QPR in the week and did very well.
"He's a strong lad, a good talker and I'm sure the other lads will be quite pleased to have him around the squad.
"It's like golf, you need all sorts of clubs in your bag and there's a couple of clubs that we haven't got. This one's our Big Bertha.
"He will be involved on Saturday, Doncaster want him to play some games and I'd like to thank Sean O'Driscoll for letting us bring him in."
