Wilson has returned to Sixfields temporarily after impressing over two spells with Kettering Town and is believed to be on his way to Bishop's Stortford of the Blue Square North division.
"Lewis is a good lad and he is very professional in everything he does," Kettering manager Thomas Baillie told the Chronicle & Echo.
Northampton, meanwhile, take on Oxford United at Sixfields this weekend in a game that is set to attract a bumper crowd to Sixfields as the hosts aim to deal a fatal blow to the U's play-off hopes.
Oxford's ambitions were dealt a hammer blow by a weekend defeat at home to Chesterfield after which manager Chris Wilder said: "That game should have been put to bed at half-time, and we have got nobody else to blame apart from ourselves for not finishing the chances.
"It was totally one-way in the first half and it should have been all over – we have missed a massive opportunity."
