For the remaining five clubs that will have any chance of securing one of the 2 places outside the relegation zone it will be a nail biting finish right up until the last day of the season.
19th – Notts County - 41 points
Since appointing Billy Dearden as manager following the departure of former manager Jocky Scott, County have picked up a little. Staring relegation in the face, the Magpies have gone on a spectacular unbeaten run to lift themselves out of the bottom four and now lead the battle to avoid the drop.
20th – Cobblers - 41 points
The sacking of Kevin Wilson and bringing back Kevan Broadhurst to take charge of affairs at the Cobblers had instant success but then things took a turn for the worse and up until Christmas it was looking like another spell in division 3 was looming. A great run of games in January and February however saw the Town rise above the relegation zone for the first time all season and ensures the Cobblers will be in the relegation dogfight right up until the end.
21st – Bury - 41 points
The financial crisis off the pitch seems to be reflected on it as the Shakers struggle for 2nd Division survival. Taking the odd point here and there however has kept hopes alive that Bury will stay up whilst the battle to overcome the clubs plight in administration will also have a happy ending. The Good Friday game with the Cobblers will surely play a big part in the Lancashire clubs fate.
22nd – Bournemouth - 40 points
A great 5-1 result against the 10 men of Northampton Town ensured Bournemouth have a hope of staying up this season. The result however is still the only win the Cherries have managed in the last 7 games making it an uphill struggle for them.
23rd – Wrexham - 36 points
The Welsh side faced a Cobblers side on the rebound from their 5-1 defeat the week before at Bournemouth and went down 4-1. By picking up points here and there Wrexham are still mathematically in the race to stay up but with only 5 games to go it would take 5 straight wins to reach the widely talked about 51 points for survival.
24th – Cambridge - 26 points
Cambridge should they lose this week will be relegated with 5 games left to play. It is baffling how a side unable to win any of the last 6 games can reach the final of the LDV Vans trophy albeit blow it at the last hurdle. A certain amount of admiration has to go out to all the fans who will travel to Northampton on the last day of the season knowing they are already confined to the jaws of the 3rd Division.
