Tentative Go-Ahead For Town Game

A 9:00am pitch inspection by the referee will be followed up by a further look at 12:30pm with the chances good providing no further rain falls.

As with the Cobblers game against Chesterfield, Newport suffered a New Year's Day postponement as their home fixture against Oxford fell foul of a waterlogged pitch despite the use of specialist equipment borrowed from Glamorgan Cricket Club.

That made it two home matches in a row that have been lost to the weather at Rodney Parade which is shared with two Rugby sides and at which planned drainage work could not be completed over the summer.

Ahead of the Northampton game, Newport also utilised an air compressor machine in a bid to improve drainage.

***2pm Update*** The game is on so all eyes are on what kind of team Andy King will field after a whirlwind of activity at Sixfields over the past few days with new loan signings, players leaving and a lengthy injury list.

***3pm Update*** Strikers Antonio German and Hallam Hope, signed this week from Gillingham and Everton respectively, start for the Cobblers as King aims to end a run of five straight away league games without a goal.

More to come on Cobblers Mad.
