Having seen summer signing Tadhg Purcell impress against Watford on Saturday, the Northampton boss paired Courtney Herbert and Steve Guinan against Nuneaton on Tuesday and was rewarded with a double Guinan strike.
"We tried to do a few different things with a few different players," said Sampson, quoted in the Chronicle & Echo.
"And it worked quite well with Courtney (Herbert) going over the top.
"He's got tremendous pace and he showed good awareness to pick out Steve Guinan for two good goals.
"I've got four strikers at this club and they're all in my thoughts at the moment. Nobody has cemented their place in the team yet and there's still time for players to catch my eye.
"Those two definitely did catch my eye in last night's game."
