Stanley followed up their opening day draw with Aldershot by beating Doncaster Rovers in the League Cup and have been rewarded with a plum tie against Newcastle in the next round.
Despite knocking out a Championship side however, boss John Coleman felt his side could have played better.
"I'm made up with the result but slightly disappointed with the performance," was his verdict.
"That wasn't Doncaster's strongest team by any stretch of the imagination and I know we can play better than that.
"We went to sleep for their goal at the start of the second half and I think we will play a lot better this season and not win games.
"Obviously I'm pleased to go through and our fitness was good against a team that had freshened up throughout the side."
Stanley will be hoping to improve on last season's display at Sixfields when Billy McKay netted twice in a 4-0 Northampton romp.
