Northampton manager Ian Sampson feared a poor performance against Macclesfield on Saturday as soon as he saw his side in the pre-match warm-up.
The Cobblers were beaten 2-0 by the Silkmen at the Moss Rose after turning in an abject display, and Sampson had seen it coming. He said: "It was like watching a different team.
"It's absolutely amazing how we can perform for three games and then come to Macclesfield and perform like that. I'm gobsmacked to say the least.
"We were so sloppy. Crozzer (assistant manager Malcolm Crosby) came in from the warm-up and said they didn't look at it and I don't know why that was. "That had an effect on the game and it seemed like everything we did went wrong."
