Frustrations finally blew after Saturday's home defeat against Bury as Northampton lost another golden opportunity to make up ground on the teams above them.
After a season of disappointing home displays, Town were booed off and manager Chris Wilder may be hoping that being away from Sixfields could be a help at the weekend.
"You can’t feel sorry for yourself in this situation, you have to drive yourself on and you have to drive your team-mates on," he said on Saturday.
"What happened against Bury was a ‘day off’ performance, it was a ‘feeling sorry for ourselves’ performance and we can’t afford to have them."
Wycombe Wanderers are now the closest side to the relegation zone, three points better off and with a better goal difference than the Cobblers. Bury and Bristol Rovers play their game in hand against each other on Tuesday night and both time and teams to catch are running out fast.
