The 28-year-old, who made 18 appearances for the Cobblers last season, was made available for transfer earlier this summer and manager Ian Sampson believes he will benefit from a move to The Globe Arena.
He said: "This is a good move for Chris. His first team opportunities here would have been limited as we have a number of central defenders on our books who in all honesty would have been above Chris in the pecking order this season.
"This move gives him the opportunity to play regular football and that has to be good for him.
"We part on good terms - we thank Chris for his efforts and wish him well at this new club."
