The versatile 22-year-old returns to League Two after earlier loan spells with Bristol Rovers and is in line for an immediate debut against Northampton on Saturday.
"We saw him play against us earlier in the season when we won 3-2 at Bristol Rovers and we knew then he was a good player," said Southend boss Paul Sturrock.
"We are delighted to have been able to bring him in to help us with all the injuries we have been suffering from of late."
Sturrock has also buried the hatchet with 'maverick' Frenchman Bilel Mohnsi, who has not played for the Shrimpers since the end of last season, and brought him back into his squad.
