The one-time £4m man has made a positive impact since a January move to Glanford Park but back problems meant he did not feature at Newport County last weekend.
"We’re hoping to have him back on the training ground come Thursday, but we need him to be right. If he’s not right, we’re going to have to leave it and not involve him," said Iron manager Russ Wilcox, speaking to the Scunthorpe Telegraph.
Scunthorpe are unbeaten in 18 games in League Two but recent draws have slightly stalled their promotion charge.
Both Bristol Rovers and Newport County scored late goals to frustrate their opponents but Wilcox has yet to taste defeat in the league since taking over from Brian Laws in November, initially on a caretaker basis.
Laws was in charge when Northampton and Scunthorpe drew 1-1 at Sixfields in September, Clive Platt scoring the Cobblers goal.
