Northampton manager Ian Sampson was furious with the display of his players as they crashed to a 4-0 defeat at Hartlepool. The Cobblers were thumped after conceding four goals in 10 second-half minutes and with a long journey back to Sixfields ahead of them, Sampson made sure they knew how upset he was.
He said: "I've told the players in the dressing room it was a shambles, absolute shambles. I could see it coming from the first five minutes, awful from back to front in terms of quality. "We didn't get any service to the front men and cannot take much out of it. "It's good that Chris (Dunn, goalkeeper) is back, he made some saves and couldn't do anything about the goals.
I'm not making any excuses, poor performance all round. We have to head back now, work on things and get it out of our system. "We've never been like that at all as long as I've been at the club, well not since I took control. I've got these lads to work with and that's what I've got, I'll make three changes for the weekend, but that's all I can do."
