Only four of the Cobblers' senior players have contracts beyond July.
"From my own personal point of view when I was running out of contract I was determined to get another one," Sampson told BBC Radio Northampton.
"A lot of them are out of contract this summer so I am sure they are the same. They need to be working to look after their families and pay their bills."
He added: "They're not super-rich Premier League stars. They're lower league footballers on average wages.
"We'll see if we can extend this run a little bit and start creeping up the table and then we'll look at it (contracts) probably around Easter-time."
