Northampton manager Ian Sampson has praised defender Craig Hinton for his performance in the Carling Cup defeat to Ipswich. Hinton suffered a knee injury at the back end of last season but was rushed back to make his first appearance of the campaign at Portman Road on Tuesday night as the Cobblers were short of numbers due to injury and suspension.
Sampson said: "Craig Hinton did a good job for us on Tuesday night but he has struggled a bit in the last couple of days on the back of that so I don't know if he will be in the team for Saturday. "I thought he was our best player at Ipswich and he used all his experience really well. He probably still needs a couple more games in the reserves to boost his fitness and that is something we are trying to arrange.
"We asked him to do a job for us on Tuesday night which was very hard for him but we had to put him in there and he did an excellent job for us but he is now suffering the consequences. "As well as aching, his knee is still a bit sore but I think he will have recovered by next week."
