Northampton manager Ian Sampson does not believe a change in formation will be important to his side this season as he looks to kick-start the League Two campaign at home to Wycombe on Saturday. Sampson played Tadhg Purcell as a lone central striker at Reading in midweek and was rewarded as the Cobblers dumped their Championship opposition out on penalties, but he would not be drawn on whether the new look is here to stay
. He said: "It will be 11 v 11. You can argue the toss over whether it`s 4-4-2, 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1 but it`s about the players. If everyone does their jobs then it can change throughout the 90 minutes anyway so we will see how we line up on Saturday.
"That`s what we want. "We want competition for places amongst what is a small squad. "We didn`t rest anyone against Reading, we picked a team to win the game and that is what we will do on Saturday."
