The Newcastle defender extended his deal at Sixfields by another month last week and Sampson has been delighted with the partnership the 20-year-old has formed with Dean Beckwith.
"Ben is here for another month and he's finding out how hard this league is - it'll make a man of him," Sampson told the Northampton Chronicle.
"He's played 14 games in his career so far and he's learning in a tough league but he's doing well so far which shows what a good player he is.
"He still makes the odd error and the odd bad decision but that's because he's a young player, those things will come with experience.
"I'd like to take Ben until the end of the season but I need to have a chat with him and his agent and see if we can work something out."
