An emphatic 4-1 victory away to Carlisle United stretched Northampton's lead at the top to 13 points and Chris Wilder's side have 21 points over Accrington Stanley in fourth place although they have played two games less.
Town's target now, however, must be to top the table and reach 100 points to cap a quite incredible season at Sixfields.
Carlisle manager Keith Curle thought his side made life too easy for the Cobblers on Saturday, telling the official CUFC website: "I have to be honest I thought the goals we gave away were soft from a defending point of view.
"They have good players who are playing with confidence and they came up against a defence today which looked fragile."
