With short trips to face Brackley Town and Oxford City having now been added to with a home game against Wycombe Wanderers, Johnson is looking at the possibility of a tour abroad for his charges.
Portugal and Latvia are the main options with the Northampton boss having a host of contacts in both countries.
Promoted Wycombe will come to Sixfields on the final weekend of pre-season in a bid to replicate the kind of game the Cobblers will be facing over the 46 game League Two season.
"I was very keen for us to arrange a match like this and I see it as a dress rehearsal for us both on and off the field," said Johnson.
“This game will be very much about preparation and will be a key match for us."
