After a goalless first-half the League One hosts steamed past the League Two opposition with a flurry of strikes, with Evan Horwood, Antony Sweeney, Andy Monkhouse and Denis Behan on target.
James Brown's shot after just 14 seconds started a busy evening for visiting goalkeeper Chris Dunn and Brown headed against the underside of the bar on the stroke of half-time, with Sweeney's follow up knocked off the line by Marcus Hall as Pools dominated.
Evan Horwood opened the scoring with a crisp, angled volley after 66 minutes at the far post. The left-back then took a quick free-kick to play in Sweeney behind the defensive wall and he cracked his shot low past Dunn. Monkhouse's volley from 12 yards nestled in the bottom corner after the ball landed at his feet and substitute Denis Behan netted with his first touch, turning in on the volley from six yards.
