Northampton Town captain Andy Holt says linesmen cannot be expected to keep up with fast players following a controversial decision at Cheltenham. The Cobblers lost 1-0 at Whaddon Road after Leon McKenzie's potential equaliser was disallowed for offside.
"The problem with a lot of linesmen is they can't keep up with the play," Holt told BBC Radio Northampton.
"Some of the players are absolutely lightning fast and you can't expect linesmen to match that pace."
The 32-year-old midfielder continued: "I think sometimes they're going with their judgement and saying 'he was probably offside so I'm going to put my flag up'.
"They'll maybe give the benefit of the doubt to centre-halves."
Defeat at Cheltenham left the Cobblers in 22nd place in the table - just a point clear of the relegation zone.
