"We gave a great showing without getting the result," he said after seeing Leon McKenzie seal all three points for the Cobblers.
"We've played some decent football and on another day we'd have gone on to win the game comfortably."
Northampton now lie six points adrift off the play-off places and will look to capitalise on their good home form when they host Crewe Alexandra and Barnet at Sixfields in their next two games.
"We've got to keep our home form going and try and pick up some points on our travels as well," said boss Ian Sampson.
