Last weekend's late reverse at Luton made it four losses on the bounce and manager Chris Wilder pulled no punches after the game in his assessment of the current level of performance of his players.
'We need to be better in the big moments in games and that's ultimately why we find ourselves on the back of four defeats."
Wilder has also this week been linked with a couple of loan signings in a bid to freshen up the squad and provide more competition for places at a time when injuries have disrupted the side.
But the League Two season is long with plenty of peaks and troughs along the way and it is far from crisis time at Sixfields yet with a good start to the season having given Northampton the breathing space to have their bad run without falling into the relegation zone and the additional pressure that brings.
