York City are the opening day opponents for Aidy Boothroyd with the Cobblers manager still keen to add to his squad as they look to go one better than last season's Wembley heartbreak.
With away form having been a huge achilles heel for Town in 2012/13, boss Boothroyd will look for an improvement straight away from trips to Bootham Crescent, Southend and Bristol Rovers during the month.
Newport and Torquay come to Sixfields, such a fortress for the Cobblers last season, while MK Dons also visit for an attractive League Cup 1st Round tie.
York boss Nigel Worthington saw his side end their friendly fixtures with a draw against Sheffield United at the weekend and declared afterwards: “We have done our pre-season work and that has to be done to make sure we get the players into shape.
He added, speaking to The Press: “We have had our double sessions. We have had our five games now. We know that we are ready to go.”
