Northampton will have Jason Taylor available for the Sky Bet League Two clash with Southend after signing the midfielder on loan from Cheltenham.
The Cobblers look set to be without defenders Gregor Robertson and Zander Diamond through injury, while striker Ivan Toney misses the second game of a three-match ban.
Robertson suffered a blow to the ribs during Sunday's 2-1 loss at Tranmere and is not expected to recover in time.
Diamond was also injured in that match and is set to be absent for two to four weeks, joining Ian Morris (knee) and Tom Newey (ankle) in the treatment room.
Southend winger David Worrall is a doubt for the trip.
Blues boss Phil Brown feared Worrall would be facing a long lay-off after he limped off with a knee injury during the first half of Sunday's goalless draw with Dagenham but a specialist has since confirmed there is no serious damage, and he could even feature against the Cobblers.
Cian Bolger will begin a four-match suspension after being sent off against the Daggers but Jerome Binnom-Williams is available again after completing his three-game ban.
Adam Thompson (dead leg) and Gary Deegan (knee) are also close to returning to contention after injury, but Kevan Hurst (hamstring) remains out
