Northampton boss Chris Wilder will not rush top scorer Marc Richards back into action against Rochdale.
The striker returned to training this week after missing the last five games with a hamstring injury but is unlikely to be considered for the FA Cup first-round tie.
Darren Carter (back) and Lee Collins (foot) could start after being unused substitutes last week.
Lewis Hornby (tendinitis), Ian Morris (knee), Evan Horwood (tendinitis) and Zander Diamond (ankle) are all out.
Rochdale could be without a trio of on-loan players as goalkeeper Conrad Logan (Leicester), defender Jack O'Connell (Blackburn) and winger Reuben Noble-Lazarus (Barnsley) have yet to receive permission to play by their parent clubs.
Manager Keith Hill, who has no new injury or suspension problems, could recall Ollie Lancashire if O'Connell is cup-tied, while goalkeeper Jonathan Musangu is currently back-up for Logan.
Midfielder Peter Vincenti (knee) and goalkeeper Josh Lillis (ankle) remain long-term absentees.
Dale, who have won eight of their last 12 matches, are bidding to extend their current unbeaten run to five games
