The Cobblers met the Grecians on Saturday with both Northampton and Exeter looking to garner three points from their League Two meeting at Sixfields.
Aidy Boothroyd had preached calm after his side's slow start to the season and he was backed pre-game by opposite number Paul Tisdale who felt that Town would slowly begin to shake off the effects of last season's play-off disappointment.
Team News: Before the game, Boothroyd had said: "I'm really pleased with Jacob Blyth. He's had a good month with us and he's proved his worth.
"What we've got to start doing is providing him, Clive Platt and Roy O'Donovan with the ammunition to score some goals."
The Cobblers boss named all three strikers in his side with pre-match injury doubt Ian Morris on the bench.
Alan Gow was rewarded for scoring Exeter's equaliser last week with a start ahead of John O'Flynn.
1st Half: Blyth justified his manager's faith in him with an early strike to give Town a valuable lead but they were pegged back 10 minutes before the break when Bennett levelled for the visitors.
2nd Half: Despite having the majority of the chances, the Cobblers were dealt a hammer blow in injury time as O'Flynn netted a winner for Exeter to leave the hosts in 22nd place in the League Two table.
