Northampton Town took to the field at Sixfields on Saturday for another crucial game in their battle to avoid the Football League trapdoor at the end of the season.
The Cobblers took on a Chesterfield side hoping to bounce back from a 3-0 defeat at Southend last weekend and the loss of two stoppage time goals which turned three points into one against Rochdale in midweek.
Still in temporary charge amid more speculation about the permanent successor to Aidy Boothroyd, caretaker boss Andy King made two changes from Town's last outing, the disappointing 2-0 home defeat by York City two weeks ago.
James Hurst and Joe Widdowson came into the side for Ishmel Demontagnac and the released Kevin Amankwaah.
First Half: The Cobblers took a vital early lead when Hallam Hope was fouled in the penalty area, Darren Carter converting the spot-kick, but were soon pegged back as Dan Gardner levelled on 25 minutes.
Second Half: Chances remained at a premium but Gary Roberts put the visitors in front eight minutes after the break. King threw on O'Donovan and Hooper but his side still struggled to find any way past the Spireites defence and Armand Gnanduillet made the game safe for the visitors on 87 minutes.
