For the second weekend running Chris Wilder's side will be pitting their wits against the current leaders of the division after Wycombe took over at the top in midweek with a hard-fought victory at home to Cambridge United.
Although they also reached the play-off final last season, Chairboys boss Gareth Ainsworth has sought to play down their chances of promotion, telling BBC Three Counties Radio: "It's great to be sat there, it's a good start to the season but we look at our squad sometimes and we know we're punching above our weight."
Consecutive 1-1 draws for the Cobblers represent a decent past few days given the injury problems that Chris Wilder has had to deal with.
Speaking to the official club website this week he said: “To be successful you have to be able to grind out results and we’ve shown in the last couple of games that we can do that."
The two sides met at Adams Park just under one year ago (4th October 2014) when Ryan Cresswell gave Northampton the lead only for Aaron Holloway to equalise in the final minute of the game after Gregor Robertson had been sent off for receiving a second yellow card.
