The story, on the Talksport website on Monday, suggests Wilder has already held talks with Charlton Athletic's controversial owner Roland Duchatelet about his plans for the club after a dismal campaign on the field and increasing levels of fan unrest off it.
Wilder's success with Northampton has seen him linked with other jobs during the season, notably at Bolton Wanderers and Rotherham United, with nothing coming of the speculation.
It would appear strange for him to swap the newly-found calm of Northampton Town, working alongside a chairman he clearly has a good relationship with, to join a club in such an obvious state of crisis and with a record of hiring and firing managers over the past few seasons.
But Charlton do still retain a strong infrastructure in terms of their ground and training facilities, will that be enough to lure Wilder away?
