Although they lie 20th in League Two at present, Sammy McIlroy's men received a huge boost from last weekend's home win against then leaders Port Vale.
"I've got the majority of my squad in place, and although I've also got to balance the books I'd like one or two more," McIlroy told BBC Radio Lancashire.
"I think I'd then have a good enough squad here to then kick on."
Last season's corresponding fixture was a 2-0 win for the Cobblers, Davis and Gilligan getting the goals.
