A thrilling game provided more entertainment on top of Tuesday's 5-1 victory over Hartlepool United but this time the Cobblers came away with nothing despite a late fightback when two goals raised hopes of a point.
"We took the plaudits on Tuesday night and today we have to take the criticism," manager Chris Wilder told the official NTFC website after the game as he pondered on Town's 'yo-yo' performances so far this season.
Opposition boss John Coleman reflected on a 'rollercoaster' week after coming back to the club for a second spell as manager.
"We went in with a game plan and to play a certain style of football under me," was his verdict.
"I wanted the players to go out and express themselves and enjoy it – and I think they did."
