Northampton Town and York City met at Sixfields on Saturday afternoon in a League Two fixture that the Cobblers were looking to win to keep alive their hopes of making the play-offs.
The Minstermen also arrived in need of points to move away from the relegation zone and buoyed by a win over Tranmere Rovers in their previous game.
But the visitors were blown away by a Northampton side brimming with confidence as they made it six wins out of eight to edge closer to the play-offs.
Revelling in his side’s play, manager Chris Wilder told the official club website that ‘apart from a ten or fifteen minute spell we were just too much for York today.’
Just eight points now separate Town from the top seven and they will look to continue their progress away to Shrewsbury next Saturday, a tough test as the Shrews currently lie second in the League Two table.
While Wilder could enjoy a relaxing Saturday night, however, his opposite number Russ Wilcox was left ‘raging’ by York’s performance.
‘I am so disappointed and there were a lot of home truths spelt out in the dressing room because we are in trouble.’
