The former England international forward was appointed recently as the successor to Graham Westley after the expiry of his contract at the Lamex Stadium.
It marks a change of direction for the club, closely associated with Westley since they entered the Football League, and a first managerial role for Sheringham who had been part of the coaching team at West Ham United.
Chairman Phil Wallace has denied that Sheringham's 'name' has been the main reason for his appointment but knows that the ex-Tottenham and Manchester United man could spark increased interest in the club and hopefully bigger crowds through the turnstiles.
With only two weeks until the League Two fixtures are announced, Northampton will soon find out when they are due to meet Sheringham's new team.
