Wycombe Wanderers, winners at Northampton on the final day of the League Two season but just pipped at the post for automatic promotion, will be doing battle with the Cobblers again next time around after losing the play-off final to Southend United.
But it is Portsmouth who are the clear favourites with the bookmakers to be the champions this time next year.
Backed by the biggest crowds in the division and having persuaded Paul Cook to drop down a division from Chesterfield and take charge, Pompey are as short as 4/1 to win the title.
Northampton are as short as 12/1 with some bookmakers to lift the league trophy. The Cobblers are also 5/1 for a top three finish.
