For Northampton of course it is a chance to forget about their slide to joint-bottom of League Two and hopefully revive the memories of that famous win at Anfield in the previous round.
The hosts meanwhile have suffered three successive defeats in the Championship and are eyeing the fixture as the perfect opportunity to get back on track.
“We’re doing well. The signs are good," said midfielder Grant Leadbitter despite Saturday's reverse at Nottingham Forest.
“The message is that every team goes through a bad spell. We have to bounce back on Tuesday and get into the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup, that’s our challenge.”
The boot will be on the other foot meanwhile for Northampton in the FA Cup where they have been handed an away tie against non-league Forest Green Rovers in the 1st Round.
