With a place in Sunday's 3rd round draw at stake, Northampton Town travelled to Grimsby in the FA Cup on Saturday looking to repeat the professional display that saw them win at Bishops Stortford earlier in the competition.
The Cobblers will have made the journey in good spirits after hauling themselves off the foot of the Football League in recent weeks, Aidy Boothroyd's side looking both more solid at the back and more dangerous in attack.
That was acknowledged by Grimsby boss Paul Hurst in the build-up to the game when he said 'we could have played them at a much better time, let's put it that way.'
Update: A disappointing day for Town as goals from Pearson and McLaughlin settled a hard-fought cup tie in favour of the hosts in front of a crowd of 3,828.
Grimsby progress to the 3rd Round while the Cobblers have the classic fall-back position of concentrating on the league.
