With only a point needed to secure safety in League Two (assuming Wycombe Wanderers win at already-relegated Torquay United), Cobblers manager Chris Wilder will be feeling that his decision to leave Oxford for Sixfields and a longer contract earlier this year has been proved right.
Certainly the U's have fallen away dramatically since Wilder's departure and will be playing for pride only at the weekend as their play-off hopes have long since disappeared.
New manager Gary Waddock launched a scathing attack on his side following the defeat against Accrington Stanley which made it six losses in seven games since he took the job.
He spoke of a 'losing culture' at the club and promised to make big changes to his squad in the summer.
