But any side that is that top of their division will arrive in good spirits and Saturday's 2-0 victory at Prescot Cables kept the Vics clear at the head of the Evo-Stik NPL Division One North.
Their 17 league games have seen Jim Gannon's team score 46 goals and they have already caused one upset in the FA Cup this season when knocking National League club Boreham Wood out after a replay.
Speaking to the Non League Paper on Sunday, striker Jordan Williams was full of praise for former Stockport County manager Gannon and said: "Not only is he a great coach but he's tactically fantastic.
"Because of his ability we don't fear Northampton."
