Released by Newcastle United at the end of last season, left-sided Hoganson played and scored in the win over Novigrad as Northampton ended 10 days of hard fitness work with a pleasing performance on the pitch.
"Michael did very well," Boothroyd told BBC Radio Northampton, praising the player's 'great potential'.
"He'll be involved in the next couple of games."
The next chance to impress for Hoganson comes this weekend when the Cobblers make the short trip to face former manager Ian Sampson's Corby Town side.
