Brian Laws' side registered one league win in August although three draws see them in 14th place prior to their trip to Sixfields.
The Iron also exited the Johnstone's Paint Trophy this week but Laws felt they were the better side in their goalless draw with Sheffield United which the Blades won on penalties.
Laws also took confidence from seeing summer signing Etienne Esajas make his first start for the club after injury with the Dutch winger playing for 75 minutes and likely to feature again at Northampton.
"I still think there’s more to come, there really is," the United boss told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.
